The comprehensive health care delivery to a vast number of diabetic all over the country is well recognized as a unique program of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh (BADAS). The Association executes this program primarily through its central institute called the Bangladesh Institute of Research & Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders (BIRDEM).
One Stop service in BIRDEM
BIRDEM One Stop laboratory Service has been started on 7 March 2016 at 2nd floor BIRDEM room #340 for all laboratoy tests. All the reports of the patients samples collected in the 2nd floor BIRDEM room #340 will be delivered to the patients from the 30 room desk.
The service is opened everyday from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm except Friday and Govt. Holiday closed.
Mohila and Shishu Diabetes Endocrine and Metabolic Hospital, Segunbagicha, Dhaka started on 7th February 2012 along the Gynae and Obs and Pediatrics OPD facilities on Diabetes Endocrine & Metabolic disease, GHPD, Eye, Skin care facilities and modern laboratories facilities for both diabetic and non-diabetic subjects.
Back in 1956, when people had a perception that diabetes is a disease of the affluents and hardly anyone anticipated that diabetes would be an epidemic even in developing countries. Professor Dr Mohammad Ibrahim (1911-1989) led a team of dedicated colleagues to establish the Diabetic Association of Pakistan which eventually became Diabetic Association of Bangladesh (in Bangla Bangladesh Diabetic Somiti, acronym BADAS) .
Prof. Dr. A K Azad Khan, an eminent Physician and Gastroenterologist, leading Academician and researcher and social worker of the country. He is now President of Diabetic Association of Bangladesh(BADAS).
Prof. Dr. A K Azad Khan is the pioneer of the movement for preventing diabetes and creating awareness on diabetes in the country.
Prof. Nazmun Nahar has joined BIRDEM General Hospital in 2004, where she held the posts of Head of Pediatrics, Clinical Director and Additional Director successfully. At present Prof. Nazmun Nahar is serving as Prof. of Pediatrics and Director General, BIRDEM General Hospital.
She has also served in many important leading posts such as past President BCPS, Bangladesh Pediatric Association and Dhaka Medical Alumni Trust.
